What if the Triwizard Tournament took place in 1977?
The year is 1977, and The Ministry of Magic has decided to bring back the Triwizard Tournament. It is to be hosted at Hogwarts this year, bringing the students of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang to Hogwarts. The old risks are still ever present, so to decrease the likelihood of death, an age restriction was placed, stating that only students seventeen years and older are allowed to place their name into the goblet. Beauxbatons and Durmstrang only brought ten students each— not all of their seventeen year olds, but only ones who wanted to submit their name into the goblet.
–But why now? Why is The Ministry of Magic choosing to bring back this deadly tournament now, after years of it being discontinued? Minister Millicent Bagnold is trying to distract the Wizarding World. With Lord Voldemort quickly rising to power and the world being forced to pick a side, The Ministry believes that the Wizarding World is in need of a “distraction” while they “sort it out.” They think they have a handle on the situation, but they truly do not. They tell themselves they have a handle on it to comfort the rising tension, but they’re losing their grip on it as the days pass. With the Death Eaters threatening Minister Bagnold’s family, she’s beginning to comply to their wishes. The Ministry isn’t reliable any longer, and despite the Triwizard Tournament, even the students are noticing what’s going on. The witches and wizards from other countries are now being pulled in and involved in Britain’s war, and they’re being forced to pick sides as well.
